Traces
What Traces Is
Traces is a collaborative initiative between MMIR Utah, the University of Utah Department of Communication, and the Utah Investigative Journalism Project. Our mission is to create Utah’s first comprehensive database and website dedicated to tracking Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR). We aim to amplify the voices of those affected by sharing stories as told by families, friends, and community members.
How We Share Stories
Our storytelling approach is guided by key principles:
1
Family Consent
We ensure that all stories are shared with the explicit consent of the families involved, respecting their wishes and boundaries.
2
Cultural Safety
We prioritize cultural safety, ensuring that the storytelling process honors and respects Indigenous traditions and perspectives.
3
Information Withholding
Some details may be withheld to protect the privacy and dignity of those involved, maintaining the integrity of the stories shared.
Share Your Story
If you are a family member wishing to share the story of a loved one, we invite you to reach out to our team. Your voice is vital in honoring their memory and raising awareness. Together, we can ensure their stories are heard and respected.
