What Reclaim Is
Coming home is about reconnecting with our land, affirming our identity, and strengthening our community bonds. It is a journey of healing and empowerment.
To reclaim means to dismantle colonial myths and restore the Indigenous voice, ensuring our stories are told with authenticity and respect.
Featured Initiative
Traces Storytelling
Traces is a collaborative effort with the University of Utah Department of Communication and the Utah Investigative Journalism Project. This initiative provides a platform for sharing the stories of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) through the voices of families, friends, and community members.
We emphasize consent, dignity, and community accountability, training community members to create and share stories that sustain our platform over time.
Our Guiding Principles
Values & Safety
Our approach is rooted in trauma-informed principles that prioritize the well-being of participants. We ensure consent-first participation, allowing families to lead decisions about what stories are shared. Dignity and respect are at the forefront of our storytelling, avoiding sensationalism and upholding confidentiality. We are committed to cultural respect and accountability to the communities we serve.
Our Commitment to Safety
We believe in empowering individuals and families to share their narratives in a way that honors their experiences and maintains their dignity. Our commitment to non-sensational storytelling ensures that each voice is heard with respect and integrity.
Media Training
We’re building media training to support non-sensational, family-led storytelling that honors dignity, consent, and cultural context. As this program grows, we plan to list approved journalists and storytellers who commit to these standards—so families can engage media with greater safety and confidence.
